A dangerous driver was clocked doing 104mph on the A90 – with threadbare tyres, a cracked windscreen and both airbags hanging out.

Edvin Korzov’s car was “barely fit to be driven” and had faulty brakes when he jumped in and sped along the A90 well above the speed limit of 70mph.

Police officers spotted him near Foveran and quickly pulled him over, only to discover the poor condition of his vehicle.

Korzov claims the reason for his dangerous driving was because his partner at the time had taken ill and he was rushing to see her.

Fiscal depute Andrew McMann told Aberdeen Sheriff Court officers carrying out speed checks spotted Korzov’s vehicle and measured it as travelling at 104mph.

The officers followed the vehicle and signalled for it to stop, which it did.

It was then the police found the alarming defects.

Car was ‘barely fit to be driven’

There was little to no thread on either of the front tyres, there was a large crack in the windscreen affecting the view and both airbags had been deployed and were partially hanging out.

The ABS light was also illuminated indicating a fault with the brakes.

Korzov pled guilty to a charge of dangerous driving over the incident, which happened on December 3 last year.

Defence agent Marianne Milligan said: “On the day in question he’d received a phone call to advise that his now ex-partner had taken a seizure.

“He stupidly got into his car and rushed to see her.”

She said the mandatory driving ban would impact on her client’s job.

Sheriff Rory Bannerman said: “This is a particularly worrying piece of driving at such speed in a car that seems barely fit to be driven, let alone at that speed on a busy road.”

He banned Korzov, of Monument Close, Peterhead, from driving for 15 months and fined him £320.
