A man accused of attempted murder after a serious car crash in the centre of Aberdeen has appeared in court for a second time.

George Alden, 35, appeared in private again at Aberdeen Sheriff Court this afternoon facing a string of charges, including domestic abuse and dangerous driving.

This next appearance comes nine days after Alden initially appeared in court.

He was also brought into the dock on October 20, a week after the 1.40am crash on Crown Street, which caused the car to overturn and left two people in hospital.

A 35-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The busy city centre street was closed for more than 16 hours on Tuesday October 11 as collision investigators examined the scene.

Accused facing six charges

The crash – and the events leading up to it – has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) after it emerged officers attempted to stop the car prior to the incident.

Alden, whose address was given as Aberdeen, is facing six charges.

As well as attempted murder and dangerous driving, he has also been charged under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act, alleging that he engaged in a course of abusive behaviour towards a partner or ex-partner.

Alden faces three further charges under the Road Traffic Act – failing to stop for a police officer, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He again made no plea on his second appearance in court, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
