A drunk dad who trashed his family home and flooded the kitchen after a night out in Elgin has told a court he’s “deeply ashamed” of his behaviour.
George Prossar warned his partner by text that she had “10 minutes to return home or he would smash up the place” after the pair became separated while socialising on August 28 this year.
The 32-year-old scaffolder blamed a combination of working long hours and mixing mental health medication with alcohol for his actions when he appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court.
When the woman got back to her flat she found her partner of eight years in a “highly agitated state and shouting and swearing” so she left in a bid to calm the situation down.
‘The kitchen was flooded’
But as soon as she left and he locked the door and began his destructive rampage.
Fiscal depute Karen Poke previously told the court how the woman heard “loud smashing” as she stood outside her Christie Road home.
“When she got back in the television was smashed, multiple pieces of furniture were all broken, the washing machine had been pulled from the wall and the kitchen was flooded,” she said. “He continued to argue with her.”
The woman sought refuge with a neighbour and police were called.
They traced him nearby and spent the night in Elgin Police Station.
Prossar admitted a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour, shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive manner while damaging property.
‘He is deeply ashamed’
Defence agent Ben Thom said the father-of-one had been in a relationship with the woman for eight years and was “deeply ashamed” at the way he’d behaved towards her.
He said a combination of working long hours and mental health struggles mixed with alcohol had meant Prossar had little explanation as to his behaviour.
“He is deeply ashamed to have come to the attention of the police and this court and is even more ashamed his conduct involved his partner,” he said.
“He has shown a deep insight into how his partner would have been aggrieved by his behaviour.”
Sheriff Robert McDonald ordered Prossar, of Christie Road, Elgin, to be of good behaviour for six months and placed him on a structured deferred sentence with supervision support.
