A painter who exposed his penis to a pensioner and then claimed it was a piece of sandpaper has been handed unpaid work.
David Grant, 50, was found guilty of exposing himself in front of the shocked 69-year-old at a farm property in Aberdeenshire following a trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
A sheriff had been quick to dismiss his far-fetched explanation after hearing a damning voicemail recording in which Grant himself admitted: “I just took it a bit too far.”
Sentence was deferred on Grant, who had denied the charge, following the verdict for background reports to be prepared.
And he has now returned to the dock to be sentenced over the matter.
‘Could he have been playing with a bit of sandpaper?’
Defence agent Ross Taggart said: “He was a self-employed painter. He’s now given that up and obtained a job for an engineering company which monitors railway lines.
“He still denies the offence, however, he does recognise that he’s been found guilty and has to accept the consequences.”
Sheriff Christine McCrossan ordered Grant, of Carnie Brae, Kintone, to be supervised for two years and to complete 150 of unpaid work.
She also ordered him to complete the Aberdeenshire Short Offender programme.
During the trial, Mr Taggart had asked Grant’s victim: “Could he have been playing with a bit of sandpaper and not exposing himself?
“Could he have simply been playing with an item, such as sandpaper, and you’re mistaken about him exposing himself?”
“I would say definitely not,” she replied.
The sheriff found him guilty of intentionally exposing his genitals during the incident at a property he was working on in October 2020.
