A teenager who had sex with an underage girl in an abandoned building and then threatened to throw her out of the window has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Adam Godfrey, 19, made the chilling threat after the child challenged him when she noticed him filming their sexual encounter.
He also struck his vulnerable 15-year-old victim to the face when she protested about being recorded.
Godfrey, of Stevens Road, Manchester, previously pled guilty to charges of having sexual intercourse with a child under 16 and assault.
And he has now appeared back in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to be sentenced over the matter.
‘Stupid and immature’
Fiscal depute Ruaridh McAlister said Godfrey, then 17, first contacted the girl via social media in May 2020 and they struck up a friendship.
He said: “At some point during a text messaging conversation, the accused began communicating with the complainer expressing a wish to have sexual intercourse with her, despite the complainer advising that she was a 15-year-old school pupil.”
The child was described as “vulnerable”, with her vulnerability “compounded by the Covid-19 lockdown”.
Mr McAlister said: “On one occasion during July or August 2020 the accused and the complainer arranged to meet at an abandoned derelict house on South Deeside Road, Aberdeen.”
While there, the pair engaged in sexual activity and the girl noticed that Godfrey was recording her on his mobile phone.
The fiscal depute said: “She expressed her shock at this and told him not to show it to anyone and to delete the footage.
“The accused told her to shut up and he slapped her to the right side of her face.
“Whilst still within the locus, when the accused and the complainer were standing next to an open window space in the derelict house, the accused put his hands around the complainer’s neck and told her that he could just throw her out of the window.
“The complainer was frightened by this.”
‘He has a lot of growing up to do’
The police were later contacted after the child confided in her mother.
Defence agent Stephanie Milligan said her client was a first-offender and suffered from “severe asthma”.
She said he now worked as a waiter at a pub in Tameside in England.
The solicitor explained Godfrey was “a very young man at the time” and was “stupid and immature”.
She went on: “He is remorseful and did not realise the significance of his actions initially.
“He has a lot of growing up to do.”
Sheriff Graham Buchanan, as a direct alternative to detention, ordered Godfrey to be supervised for two years and carry out 140 hours of unpaid work.
He also imposed a requirement to complete programme work and made a five-year non-harassment order.
