A drunk dad who entered his ex-wife’s back garden and tried to get into the scared woman’s home has told a court, “I was just missing my kids”.
George Thomson put his ex in a “state of fear” after he appeared at the window where she was washing the dishes.
The woman then fled upstairs while Thomson banged on the back door and tried the handle.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the 56-year-old also tried his luck at the front door before he was detained by the police.
They’d been called to the address by his ex who dialed 999 in desperation during the frightful incident on July 22 this year.
‘A figure appeared at the window’
Thomson previously admitted a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour with a domestic aggravation.
At an earlier hearing, the court was told that the woman was washing dishes when she spotted her ex in the garden.
Fiscal Depute Shamielah Ghafar said: “The witness was within her kitchen, washing dishes, when a figure appeared at the window in her back garden.
“She recognised this individual as her ex-husband.”
‘State of fear’
Ms Ghafar said that the woman was placed in “a state of fear” and she fled to the upstairs of her home as Thomson banged on the back door and tried the handle.
He then moved to the front of the home and did the same.
Police responding to the woman’s distress call found a “heavily intoxicated” Thomson in the rear garden of the property.
Thomson, who represented himself in court, said: “We have been separated for seven years and this is the first time it has happened. I got drunk and went to the door”.
‘I was just missing my kids’
When the accused appeared for sentencing, Sheriff Robert Frazer asked Thomson if he had anything to say about his actions
He responded: “I was just missing my kids”.
The sheriff deferred a sentence for 12 months, to allow Thomson to prove he can behave himself.
But Sheriff Frazer warned him against “any repetition” or “bothering” his ex-wife “in any way at all”.
He also continued consideration of a Crown motion for a non-harassment order to prevent Thomson, of Loch Flemington, from contacting the woman until November next year.
