A man has appeared in court for a second time in connection with an alleged “hostage situation” in Stonehaven – where armed police discharged a firearm and taser.
Last week, Martynas Kulvinskas, of no fixed abode, appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, and the case was continued for further examination for a week.
Armed police had previously raced to Hunter Place, Stonehaven, around 12.40pm on Monday November 21, following reports of a disturbance.
A police insider with knowledge of the alleged incident described it as a “hostage situation” at the time.
Now, 31-year-old Kulvinskas has re-appeared in court, still facing the same three charges.
He’s accused of abduction and assault, abduction and assault to injury, and having an article with a blade or point in a public place.
Again, Kulvinskas made no plea and was remanded in custody, while the case against him was fully committed.
And no date was set for his next appearance.
Accused treated in hospital
During last month’s alleged ‘hostage situation’, police officers discharged a firearm and a taser was also deployed, Police Scotland later confirmed.
The area and surrounding streets, including Mearns Drive, were sealed off and social media reports at the time also suggested that locals had been told to stay indoors.
Kulvinskas was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.
The police watchdog’s officials are investigating officers’ handling of the circumstances on the day.
A referral to the PIRC is a common occurrence when armed officers have fired their weapons during a police incident.
