A jilted teenager who threatened to throw a brick through his ex-girlfriend’s window when she dumped him after five dates has been ordered to stay away from her.
Kian Crombie, 18, met the young woman via an online dating site but she soon halted the relationship over concerns about his “overbearing and aggressive” behaviour.
Crombie then began bombarding the woman with messages and calls, telling her she was a “s***” and that he was going to smash her window.
When she called the police, her abusive ex told her: “The police can’t do anything”.
A sheriff described his behaviour towards the woman as “absolutely disgraceful”.
Fiscal depute Lydia Ross told the court that the couple had only gone on five dates before the woman rejected Crombie “due to the accused’s behaviour”.
“Following this, the complainer began to receive multiple text messages from the accused, calling her a ‘s***’ and further threats that he would smash her window.
“Upon receiving the messages, the complainer contacted her friend and arranged to socialise with him.
“During the evening of September 30 this year, they were together reviewing text messages from the accused when she received a call from a withheld number.
“Believing it to be the accused, the complainer answered the call and put it on loudspeaker so her friend could listen.
“The accused stated, ‘What do you think you are doing?’ and that he was ‘going to go mad’ because she had ended their relationship.
“The complainer told the accused to leave her alone and terminated the call.”
On October 1 this year, the woman received another call from Crombie who told her he was “going to throw a brick through her window”.
Shortly after, the woman contacted the police, who arrived just in time to hear another call made by Crombie to his victim.
“The complainer recognised the voice of the accused and put it on loudspeaker in front of the police and heard the accused tell her, ‘The police can’t do anything’,” the court was told.
Crombie pleaded guilty to one charge of engaging in a course of action that was abusive to his partner or ex-partner by sending messages and making threatening calls between September 20 and October 1 this year.
‘No wonder she found it distressing’
Defence agent Paul Barnett told the court that Crombie wanted to make it clear that he was the one who ended the relationship.
He said: “Mr Crombie says they met up on a dating app and she had told him that she wanted the relationship to be exclusive.
“He says he had become aware that she was not treating it as exclusive.
“But he has accepted that the messages and telephone calls he made must have been very unpleasant for the complainer.”
Sherif William Summers told Crombie: “Your behaviour towards your former partner was absolutely disgraceful and no wonder she found it distressing.
“However, I put this down to your immaturity.”
Sheriff Summers sentenced Crombie, of Harris Drive, Aberdeen, to a community payback order with supervision for 12 months.
He also put a non-harassment order in place, meaning Crombie cannot approach his former girlfriend for three years.
