Failure to clean up after a Hogmany party cost a Moray reveller £300 at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.
James Harper, 29, was caught out on the evening of January 3, when police were called to his Buckie home after an “incident” involving several people broke out.
Depute Fiscal Kevin Corrins told the court that during a search of the offshore worker’s address, at 21 Mid Street, police found the remnants of two bags containing white powder from a party two days earlier, as well as traces of a white substance on the coffee table.
The substance was sent to be analysed and was found to be a small amount of cocaine, with a street value of £5.
Defence solicitor Matthew O’Neill said: “Mr Harper has had a party at his house on January 1. There was an incident at his house on the evening of January 3, which involved a number of people. Police have attended and found the remains of the substance there.
“He is an offshore worker, subject to regular drug testing. This was not something he would normally have involved himself in, but he accepts he made a foolish decision.”
Sheriff Susan Raeburn fined Harper £300 after he admitted possessing class A drugs.
