A former nurse will face no further punishment after she was found guilty of attacking her sister.
Inverbervie woman Carol McIntosh carried out the violent assault after her sibling returned home from taking their father out for ice cream.
When they arrived back at McIntosh’s dad’s address, the 56-year-old flew into a rage and seized her sister’s mobile phone before striking her on the head.
McIntosh then grabbed her sister by the hair and pulled it before dragging her to the ground where she repeatedly kicked her body.
The former nurse claimed her sister had been “goading her” prior to the assault.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard her victim was left with injuries following the attack.
The court heard that on March 30 last year McIntosh was angry at her sister for taking their father out for ice cream without informing her.
McIntosh, who acts as a carer to her infirm father, waited for the pair to return home before attacking her sister.
Sheriff Shirley McKenna found McIntosh guilty of assault following a trial in June last year.
Defence solicitor Rosey Scott told the court: “Mrs McIntosh was someone who was a nurse where she had a good career and good working record – she is very distressed by this situation.
“Her position is that her sister set her up – she was goading her.
“But she wants to apologise to her sister for her actions.
“She has never been in any sort of trouble like this before and the whole thing has been quite traumatic for her.”
Former nurse has been of good behaviour
Asked by Sheriff Andrew Miller if the former nurse had been of good behaviour following the trial verdict, fiscal depute Jennifer Pritchard informed the court that she had.
Sheriff Miller told McIntosh, who is a first offender, that this was “clearly an incident that she regrets” and was a “product of issues within the family”.
He added that a report into McIntosh’s background made clear the “uncharacteristic nature” of her behaviour.
Sheriff Miller admonished McIntosh, of Brighead Way, Inverbervie, due to her being of good behaviour.
