A man was left with a two-inch gash on his face after being slashed in an unprovoked attack as he stood outside his flat having a cigarette.
Clay Craig, 26, lashed out with a pink kitchen knife, slashing his victim across the face at flats on Kincorth Circle.
The man was left lying on the concrete with blood pouring from a wound on his cheek while Craig fled the scene with his father.
After being traced and arrested he confessed the attack had been “unprovoked” and “fuelled by alcohol and anger”.
Fiscal depute Carol Gammie told Aberdeen Sheriff Court Craig visited his girlfriend’s address at 9am on April 20 stating he’d been assaulted in the street.
Wound closed with surgical glue
He had a number of superficial cuts on his face and was later dropped off at his dad’s address on Kincorth Circle at 6pm.
An hour later, Craig’s victim, one of his father’s neighbours, went out into the rear communal area of the block to have a cigarette.
Ms Gammie said: “The accused and his father were present and the accused began shouting.
“A verbal argument ensued.
“The accused was in possession of a pink-handled kitchen knife which had a 4-5 inch
blade and used this to slash the complainer to his face.
‘No justification for carrying out assault’
“The complainer fell to the concrete floor and hit the right side of his face off the ground.”
As the man lay bleeding on the ground, Craig shouted at him and walked off with his father.
The man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was found to have a two-inch laceration to his left cheek which had to be closed with surgical glue.
It will leave a permanent scar.
Craig was traced the following day and cautioned and arrested.
Ms Gammie said: “He was interviewed and fully admitted assaulting the complainer by slashing his left cheek with a knife.
“He advised that the assault was unprovoked, fuelled by alcohol and anger, and that he had no justification for carrying out said assault.”
Craig, of Printfield Terrace, Aberdeen, pled guilty to assault to injury and permanent disfigurement and possession of a knife.
Sheriff Ian Wallace deferred sentence on Clay until next month for reports.
Defence agent Paul Barnett reserved mitigation until the sentencing hearing.
