A man who was caught driving at almost 120mph on a busy north-east road was showing off to friends, a court has been told.
Lewis Forrester, 30, was stopped after police spotted his Black Audi S3 speeding along the A92 between Blackdog and Ellon with other passengers in the car.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that Forrester’s vehicle was clocked at 119mph in a 70mph zone.
His solicitor told the court her client had just been “excited” when he bought the car and was “showing off to friends”.
Fiscal depute Kirsty Martin told the court that at around 10.30am on May 9 2020 police were in an unmarked police vehicle carrying out static road checks when they saw Forrester’s car hurtle past them at high speed.
“They saw the vehicle being driven clearly in excess of the speed limit,” she said.
“The police activated their blue lights and sirens and caught up with the car, which slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road.
“The accused was found to be the driver. He made no reply in response to being cautioned and charged.”
Forrester pleaded guilty to one charge of driving his vehicle dangerously and at speeds of up to 119mph in the face of “obvious and potential dangers”.
Accused is ‘very apologetic’
Defence agent Jenny Logan told the court that her client was “excited to have gotten the vehicle and was showing off to his friends who were in the car with him”.
She added: “He tells me that he has now gotten rid of the vehicle, but he accepts that his actions that day were reckless and dangerous.
“Mr Forrester is very apologetic and knows that this will result in him losing his licence today.”
Sheriff Morag Fraser fined Forrester, of Shieldhill Garden’s, Aberdeen, a total fine of £320 and handed him six penalty points on his licence, reduced from nine.
However, despite Forrester already having six points on his licence, the addition of a further six points would not trigger an automatic driving ban.
According to the UK Government website someone “could be disqualified from driving” if they build up 12 or more penalty points – but only within a period of 3 years.
And although Forrester has three previous driving offences, his last driving conviction was in 2016.
