A dad has been jailed after being caught with thousands of pounds of cocaine stashed beneath insulation in his loft – as well as inside a Kinder Egg.
Connor Smart was snared after police received intelligence that he was involved in the supply of drugs at his home in Aberdeen.
A warrant was executed and a systematic search of the 26-year-old’s address uncovered more than £7,000 of the Class A drug.
Smart’s efforts to hide his illegal stash in places throughout the property were not enough to fool officers and Smart has now been jailed over the matter.
Accused ‘deeply regrets’ involvement
Fiscal depute Lynne MacVicar told Aberdeen Sheriff Court police received intelligence reports indicating that Smart was involved in the supply of drugs at his home on Cummings Park Drive in January and February 2019.
A drugs search warrant was executed on March 7 2019 while Smart and another male were inside.
Ms MacVicar said: “The accused was immediately placed in handcuffs and cautioned and detained in terms of section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.”
An extensive search of the address was carried out and cash and drugs were found within a washbag concealed under loft insulation.
Elsewhere in the property, a further tub and a Kinder Egg were found, both containing cocaine.
Bundles of money were also discovered along with two mobile phones which, when analysed, were found to contain messaging “indicative of the onward supply of cocaine”.
Testing on one of the bags recovered found a mixed DNA sample of which Smart was the “major contributor”.
Smart ‘told’ he was in debt
In total, 106.4g of cocaine was recovered, with a potential street value of £7,070.
Smart, of Cummings Park Drive, Aberdeen, pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug.
Defence agent Tony Burgess said: “I think it’s fair to say that Mr Smart is from a family who are no strangers to the criminal fraternity.
“It’s, in part, because of his family circumstances that he found himself in debt to others concerned in the supply of drugs.
“In order to satisfy that debt by violence not being visited upon him he allowed himself to become involved in bagging the drugs for others. Those drugs were then collected and taken away and money returned.”
Mr Burgess said the dad-of-one “deeply regrets” his involvement.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan jailed Smart for 16 months.
