An Aberdeen man who assaulted his former partner has been fined £300.
Paul Mackland, 37, visited Kym Anderson’s home at Hatton uninvited on August 20 last year and launched a tirade against her 20-year-old boyfriend, before grabbing her by the throat.
Yesterday, at Peterhead Sheriff Court he was fined by Sheriff Andrew Miller who branded his actions “completely unacceptable behaviour”.
Giving evidence, Ms Anderson, 34, said: “He walked up and said ‘tell your boyfriend he’s a dead man.”
Crying in the witness box, she added: “He said ‘I could just take you by the throat’. He went to turn to leave, then came towards me. It was fast-paced. He took me by the throat with his hand.”
The mother-of-three said she had to punch Mackland twice in the face before he released his grip.
Her landlady, Alex Whitelaw, 48, overheard the exchange and also gave evidence.
She said: “He said words to the effect that he was threatening her boyfriend. I particularly remember him saying that her boyfriend better watch out. He got louder as the conversation went on.
“I heard a commotion, I thought he must have hit her, then I heard her gasp like she was gasping for air.”
Mackland, of 38 Sclattie Park, Aberdeen denied the charge against him.
The stonemason said he had gone to his former partner’s home to discuss arrangements for her to see her son on his seventh birthday.
And Mackland claimed it was him who was attacked when he raised concerns about cannabis use and the house being used for young men to have sex.
He said: “I took my right hand and threw her off. It was really quick – I actually grabbed her by the shoulder. I never grabbed her by the throat.”
Sheriff Andrew Miller, however, dismissed Mackland’s version of events.
“I don’t accept your account of this incident,” he said.
“I am in no doubt that you did assault Kym Anderson by grabbing her by the throat.”
Mackland was ordered to pay the fine in weekly installments of £10.
