A mechanic has been banned from driving following an “expensive” mistake in getting behind the wheel after taking cannabis.
Cade Bell was pulled over on Great Northern Road as part of a routine traffic stop before officers noticed a smell of cannabis coming from him.
A saliva test then showed the 22-year-old was over the legal driving limit for the drug and he was arrested.
Fiscal depute Sean Ambrose told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened on the A96 Great Northern Road just before 11am on August 26 2021.
He said: “Officers saw the Skoda Fabia being driven at the locus.
“It was subsequently stopped and the accused was found to be the driver.
“The officers noted a smell of cannabis emanating from the accused and formed the view he may be under the influence of a controlled drug.”
‘It’s a mistake’
A saliva test then returned a positive result and Bell was arrested and taken to Kittybrewster station where the formal procedure was carried out.
Bell, of Wellheads Avenue, Dyce, pled guilty to driving with 3.2 microgrammes of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood. The legal limit is 2 microgrammes.
Defence agent John McLeod said: “This will be very expensive for this young man, unfortunately. He’s a mechanic by trade.
“He has a job interview coming up that may well be adversely affected.
“He cooperated with the police.
“It’s a mistake.”
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin banned Bell from driving for 12 months and fined him £640.
