Man caught hiding drugs and knife inside his bottom

His plan to smuggle the items into prison failed when he told police officers he felt sore and they spotted blood on the back of his trousers.

A man who complained of having a sore bottom was caught hiding drugs and a knife inside so he could smuggle them into prison.

Mark Main, 37, tried to stash two wraps of drugs and a small knife inside himself as he expected to be arrested on a separate matter.

But his plan failed when he told police officers that he felt sore and they spotted blood on the back of his trousers.

After several visits to the toilet in his cell, police discovered the drugs and blade.

Fiscal depute Carol Gammie told Aberdeen Sheriff Court that police spotted Main on Aberdeen’s Cornhill Drive at 10.45pm on October 25 2021 and searched him, due to “the manner in which he was acting”.

He ‘removed several items from his anus’

No drugs were found at that point but Main was arrested and taken to Kittybrewster police station concerning an unrelated matter.

While in custody, a full search was carried out but still, nothing was found.

However, Main began to complain of “pain” and officers noticed some blood staining on the back of his trousers.

At 3.30am on October 26 2021, an officer checked on Main in his cell.

He saw that Main was sleeping but also noticed a “large clear wrap” with apparent blood staining in the cell.

The officer alerted a colleague and CCTV in the cell was reviewed.

It showed Main “using the toilet several times and removing several items from his anus”.

Ms Gammie said the items were two black wraps and a knife in a large clear wrap.

‘The knife was removed from where?’

Sheriff Andrew Miller asked: “The knife was removed from where?”

Ms Gammie repeated: “His anus, which would explain the blood staining”.

Main was also observed to put “unidentified items into his mouth and swallow them”.

After this, his behaviour changed and he “appeared to be under the influence of some sort of substance”.

Main was removed from the cell, which was then searched.

One of the black wraps contained 4.78g of cocaine, worth up to £470.

The other held 4.43g of 6-Monoacetylmorphine, effectively heroin in liquid form, worth up to £220.

The knife was described as having a “small silver blade and wooden handle”.

‘Harassment and degradation’

Main, of Frederick Street in Aberdeen, pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and 6-Monoacetylmorphine and possession of a knife.

His defence agent Lynn Bentley said: “Although they are Class A drugs, the quantities recovered were not particularly high-value”.

She said Main is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence that was imposed last October for a serious incident involving a samurai sword.

Ms Bentley added that Main had also been subjected to “considerable harassment and degradation” from fellow prisoners and staff at HMP Grampian, due to a separate conviction.

Speaking about the latest court case, Ms Bentley explained that Main had “anticipated” being taken into custody and inserted the items “in preparation” for that.

She said the knife was to be used for “cutting” the drugs.

The solicitor explained that police had formed the view that the drugs were for onward supply due to “the way in which they had been packaged and concealed within him and where he was going”.

Sheriff Andrew Miller jailed Main for a total of 15 months consecutive to his current prison sentence.
