A father-of-three who told his partner her kids would be better off if she died has been ordered to carry out a domestic abuse rehabilitation programme.
Jack Stephenson called the woman a “fat s***”, and said she was “so lazy the kids would be better off without her if she died,” Elgin Sheriff Court was told.
The 32-year-old also threatened to stamp on the woman’s head.
Fiscal depute Victoria Silver said the abuse lasted just under a fortnight at the couple’s then home in Vienenburg Avenue, Forres.
On one occasion he berated her for not being able to understand the Covid testing system before grabbing her by the throat.
Threat to stamp on her head
After that attack, he ordered her to take one of the children to school as “I do f****** everything”.
He then threatened her: “Wait til the kids go to school then see what happens.”
During a later incident on April 30 2021 he called her a “fat and lazy b**** who sat on her phone all day” before seizing the device and flinging it across the kitchen.
When he put it in his pocket and she tried to retrieve it he pushed her in the chest and acted aggressively.
During this incident, the woman scratched him.
“He told her this was the second time she had scratched him and there wouldn’t be a third time or else he would stamp on her head,” the court heard.
Stephenson admitted carrying out a course of domestic abuse between April 19 2021 and April 30 the same year.
His defence agent Iain Maltman said the offending occurred just as their relationship was breaking down.
Under work and money pressures
“It has since broken down,” the solicitor said. “In the lead up to the offending he was under some pressures regarding finances and his work.”
He said his client would benefit from a carrying out domestic offending project and has been offered a cleaning job since relating to Aviemore.
Stephenson, now of Birch Road, Aviemore, was ordered to carry out the Caledonian Men’s domestic abuse rehabilitating programme as well as adhere to a two-year supervision order.
