A man was caught “rummaging” through an unlocked ambulance by paramedics who had been called to help him.
Leon Ironside was found “semi-comatose” in a lift at Inverdon Court and ambulance crews were called to make sure he was alright.
Paramedics treated the 37-year-old, but when they tried to help him back to his flat in the same building he refused and wandered off.
Unable to locate him again, the emergency crew returned to the ambulance – only to find Ironside inside it, raking through their equipment.
Fiscal depute Stephanie Cardow told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened around midnight on April 18, 2022.
Ironside was ‘under the influence’ at the time
Defence agent Lynn Bentley said the ambulance had been left unlocked outside the building.
She said: “They had attended to assist Mr Ironside who had been semi-comatose in a lift.”
The solicitor explained the paramedics did initially treat Ironside, but when they tried to take him to his flat he wandered off.
Ms Bentley continued: “They looked for him and couldn’t find him so went back to the ambulance and saw him rummaging through items that had been left in the unlocked ambulance.”
She said Ironside suffered from a drug problem and was under the influence at the time of the offence.
Ironside, of Inverdon Court, Aberdeen, admitted being found in the ambulance without lawful authority in circumstances such that it could be reasonably inferred he intended to commit theft.
Sheriff Margaret Hodge ordered him to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work.
