A reveller punched an Aberdeen bouncer and put him in a chokehold after taking umbrage at the way his friend had been kicked out of the bar.
Daniel Wright had been part of a group drinking in Justice Mill in Aberdeen when his friend became too drunk and was thrown out.
Wright, 24, help escort his friend outside but took exception to the perceived heavy-handed approach the door staff took.
When he went back inside to tell his girlfriend he was going to take his friend home, Wright suddenly launched a violent attack on one of the bouncers.
‘I think this is disgraceful behaviour’
Fiscal depute Stephanie Cardow told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened shortly before 11pm on March 17.
She said Wright’s friend was asked to leave the pub due to intoxication but refused and had to be “forcibly removed”.
Passing police officers were asked to assist and, while details were being taken outside, Wright went back inside to let his girlfriend know what was happening.
Mrs Cardow said: “The accused reentered and used the opportunity to punch the bouncer and place him in a chokehold.
“The complainer stated his breathing was restricted by the chokehold.”
Wright was then restrained and arrested.
The counter did not seek medical attention but stated he was left with pain to his neck and back.
‘I don’t know what you thought you were doing’
Wright, of Greenfern Road, Aberdeen, pled guilty to a charge of assault.
Defence agent Lisa Reilly said her client had actually assisted door staff in escorting his friend outside but felt they were unnecessarily rough.
She said: “Mr Wright was assisting with trying to calm the situation down.”
Ms Reilly explained Wright offered to take his drunken friend home, but when he went back inside to let his partner know, he lashed out at the bouncer.
She added: “He accepts this was no way to behave.”
The solicitor said Wright, who had no previous convictions, apologised for his actions.
Sheriff Margaret Hodge told Wright: “I think this is disgraceful behaviour.
“I don’t know what you thought you were doing trying to calm the situation down by attacking someone.”
She fined him £320.
