A woman who went on a shameless shoplifting spree that saw her steal more than £3,000 worth of goods has been jailed.
Kelly Anne Booth appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court facing a total of 27 charges after she stole thousands of pounds worth of food, alcohol and household items from supermarkets across the north-east.
The 48-year-old also stole a £220 speaker from Currys in Garthdee, Aberdeen.
Her solicitor told the court there was “no getting away from the sheer number of offences”.
Fiscal depute Stephanie Cardow outlined the thefts, which took place between April 2021 and February this year.
Of the more than a dozen shoplifting charges, Mrs Cardow stated that in total Booth managed to steal a total of £1,870 in food, household products, alcohol and dog food from Tesco stores in Banchory, Ellon, Inverurie, Newtonhill and Aberdeen.
In June 2021 Booth then managed to steal £226 worth of alcohol and cigarettes from the Co-op in Stonehaven.
Two months prior to this, she had made off with a £220 speaker from Currys.
On September 26 2021 Booth nabbed £169 of hair products, clothing and jewellery from an Asda in Garthdee.
Inverurie Whisky Shop was also raided by Booth, who stole £179.99 worth of alcohol.
In 2022, she stole from Marks and Spencer Food and struck a worker with a blunt object while also stealing £227 in clothing and household goods from Next in Aberdeen.
She later stole £148 worth of food from Sainsbury’s in Berryden.
She admitted a total of 14 charges related to shoplifting and assault while also admitting a dozen other charges relating to breaches of her community payback order.
Defence solicitor Lisa Reilly told the court that her client “understands the serious situation” that she has found herself in.
She added: “Ms Booth shows insight into her criminal behaviour and expresses regret for her actions.
“There’s no getting away from the sheer number of offences and her previous record for offending.
“She wants to start afresh but she knows the court will take this seriously.”
Responding to Ms Reilly, Sheriff David Hall said: “We’re talking about thousands of pounds worth of good here – it’s no small amount”.
He sentenced Booth, of Inverurie, to a total of 120 days in prison.
