A man smashed an empty glass over the head of birthday party reveller.
Bryan Robertson admitted assaulting Adam Morrison in the Highland capital when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
He carried out the attack in the city’s Union Street on May 24 last year.
The 26-year-old, of Flat 2-1, 313 Shieldhall Road, Govan, Glasgow, will be sentenced on June 4.
Fiscal depute Roderick Urquhart told the court: “Robertson was in the city centre with his brother as were a group of people from Nairn celebrating a birthday.
“An altercation broke out between Robertson and one of the group and Mr Morrison intervened in an attempt to diffuse the situation.
“However, it had the opposite effect and Robertson struck him twice on the top of the head with an empty drinking glass he had in his hand.
“The glass shattered on the second blow and Mr Morrison sustained a cut to his head which required five stitches.
“Robertson made off but security staff at a nearby public house saw what happened and followed him.
“They flagged down a passing police car and Robertson was arrested shortly afterwards.”
Sheriff Margaret Neilson deferred sentence for a background report.
