A drunken man punched a police officer who caught him urinating in a marquee at a popular Aberdeenshire farming show.
Graeme Anderson was seen staggering around at the Banchory Show, attempting to push over a fence before wandering into a marquee in the early hours of the morning.
Police officers followed him into the tent and found him urinating.
But on being told he would be given a fixed penalty, Anderson, 29, reacted angrily and lashed out.
Fiscal depute Sean Ambrose told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened around 12.20am on July 31.
‘Horrified and disgusted’
He said police on mobile patrol at King George V Park in Banchory saw Anderson leaving a fenced area in an “agitated state”.
Mr Ambrose went on: “The accused was seen by officers attempting to push over a fence before storming away.
“He was seen to enter another marquee across the field.”
Officers followed and found Anderson “urinating within the marquee”.
Mr Ambrose said: “The accused was advised he would be given a fixed penalty notice for urinating in a public place.”
Anderson told the officers he wasn’t urinating and tried to walk off, but when one of them stopped him, he became angry.
He began to flail his arms and shouted: “What the f*** do you think you’re doing?”
Anderson then punched one of the officers in the face before being restrained and handcuffed.
Fortunately, the police officer was not injured.
‘This is no way to behave at all’
Anderson, of Brighton Place, Peterculter, pled guilty to urinating in such circumstances as to cause, or be likely to cause, annoyance along with assault.
Defence agent Liam Mcallister said: “He’s, quite rightly, horrified and disgusted at his conduct at the Banchory Show last summer.
“He’s not someone who drinks to excess at all really, but on this occasion, he had been.
“When the police arrested him he immediately apologised and recognised his behaviour was appalling.”
Mr Mcallister said his client, who works as a landscaper but also helped his father with farm work, had little recollection of the offences.
Sheriff Donald Ferguson told Anderson: “This is no way to behave at all, as you seem to have worked out for yourself.”
He fined him a total of £380.
