A man who ran from his car after being stopped by police was later found to be carrying more than £4,000 worth of cannabis.
Dennis Wildgoose, 41, was pulled over in Aberdeen and immediately jumped from his Mercedes-Benz and ran away.
Officers caught up with him a few streets away and found him attempting to dispose of a large bag of “green herbal substance”.
During a further search of the vehicle, police discovered additional cannabis with a potential street value of £4,100.
Accused made off
Fiscal depute Jane Spark told the court that at around 7.15am on July 29 last year, police stopped the silver Mercedes Benz on Ann Street, Aberdeen.
“The accused alighted from the vehicle and made off,” Ms Spark said.
“However, police caught him a short distance away where he was found to be in possession of a large bag of green herbal substance.
“During a search of the vehicle by officers a further green herbal substance was found in the accused’s possession.”
The fiscal said the substance was later determined to be 270g of cannabis with a street value of between £2,700 and £4,100.
Wildgoose pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing and attempting to discard a controlled drug and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
‘Not a small amount’
Defence agent Neil McRobert admitted that the bag of cannabis his client was found with was “not a small amount”.
He added: “Mr Wildgoose has been a user of cannabis from his teenage years.
“His intention was to use that amount himself but he also planned to sell some of it to facilitate his further use of cannabis.”
Sheriff Margaret Hodge noted that Wildgoose had one previous conviction for drug possession but a “relatively limited number of previous convictions” overall.
She made Wildgoose, of Donside Court, Aberdeen, subject to a community payback order and ordered him to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work.
