A sheriff has ordered a man to donate £300 to charity after he admitted assaulting a young child with “excessive smacking”.
Ross Strachan was handed the unusual requirement after appearing in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court over the matter.
The 24-year-old admitted a charge of assault to injury over the incident, which happened earlier this year.
Sheriff Donald Ferguson declined to hear a Crown narrative of the offence in court but, summing the incident up himself, said it was “excessive smacking” and “totally inappropriate”.
Supervisor to select local charity
The child, a toddler, was left injured.
Sheriff Ferguson imposed a six-month supervision order on Strachan, of Victoria Road, Aberdeen.
He also made a conduct requirement for Strachan to donate £300 to an Aberdeen children’s charity.
The charity in question was to be decided by Strachan’s supervising officer.
