A man has appeared in court accused of being in a restricted area of Aberdeen harbour without permission, taking a forklift truck and driving it towards a police car.
Daniel Smith did not enter a plea when he appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court facing a string of charges over the incident, said to have taken place on Saturday.
Among the charges is an allegation under the Aviation and Maritime Security Act 1990.
The charge alleges the 33-year-old was in a restricted area of the harbour, Point Law Peninsula, and would not leave despite requests to do so.
Charge states driving was ‘erratic’
Other charges allege Smith took and drove away a forklift from Clyde Street.
He is alleged to have driven the pronged vehicle dangerously and “in an erratic manner” within a commercial area close to stationary vehicles and also towards a police car, causing the driver to take preventative action to avoid a collision.
Smith is further accused of driving while unfit through drink or drugs, failing to stop for police, failing to comply with a preliminary drug test and breath test and possession or cocaine.
The case against Smith, whose address was given in court papers as Arbroath Way, Aberdeen, was continued without plea.
