A man has denied causing around £3,000 of damage to an Aberdeen golf course by doing doughnuts on the green.
Muddy tyre tracks appeared on the Kings Links golf course over the weekend, appearing to be caused by a vehicle skidding in circles.
The damage, estimated to cost around £3,000 to repair, was to two of the fairways and rendered one green of the Sport Aberdeen course completely unplayable.
And now, John Doran has appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in connection with the incident, which happened on Sunday.
The 28-year-old faced a charge of driving a car, without lawful authority, “on to or upon any common land, moorland or land of any other description, not being land forming part of a road”.
‘This damage has led to a costly repair for Sport Aberdeen’
He was also accused of driving without insurance.
Doran, of Brough Lane, Elkesley, Nottinghamshire, pled not guilty to both charges.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin set a trial date for August and a pre-trial hearing for July.
She released Doran on bail with a condition not to enter the Kings Links golf course.
David Selkirk, Sport Aberdeen’s director of community leisure operations, said: “We are extremely disappointed by the damage caused, including to the fairways on the 8th and 9th holes caused by vehicle tracks.
“This damage has led to a costly repair for Sport Aberdeen, estimated to be around £3,000.
“Our green keeping staff have started the repair works on the 8th green – we hope to have it fully restored in three to four weeks’ time weather dependent.
“In the meantime, our green-keeping staff have extended the front apron of the 8th green, so the hole is fully playable.”
