A hotel worker who was denied entry to an Aberdeen nightspot for being too drunk turned on police officers, telling them: “I’ll knock yous out.”
Fennick Deans was reported to police after he was stopped by doormen from entering Prohibition nightclub due to his level of intoxication.
When police officers arrived on the scene, the 22-year-old started hurling threats at the constables.
Upon being arrested and taken to Kittybrewster Police Station, Deans – an employee at a private members hotel – assaulted one officer by kicking them, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard.
‘What are yous going to do about it, like?’
Fiscal depute Lydia Ross told the court that at around midnight on November 11 2021 police were on mobile patrol on Langstane Place.
“They were aware that the accused had been refused entry to the club due to the amount of alcohol he had consumed,” Ms Ross said.
“Officers saw the accused staggering outside the locus and when spoken to became aggressive while shouting and swearing.”
Deans then made verbal threats to the officers by stating “f*** off”, “f*** you” and “I’ll knock yous out.”
Continuing his aggressive behaviour, Dean then goaded the officers by asking: “What are yous going to do, like?”
As Deans began behaving in a threatening manner towards members of the public he was warned a number of times by officers to stop – but he “failed to desist” and was arrested.
As police were removing him from the police van at Kittybrewster Police Station he lashed out at one officer and kicked him to the body.
Deans, a food and beverage supervisor, pleaded guilty to one charge of assault and a second charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Accused is ‘deeply sorry for his behaviour’
Defence solicitor Gregor Kelly told the court that his client “regrets his conduct” and had turned to alcohol at the time as his parents were going through a divorce.
“He found that the bottle was not the panacea he hoped it would be and he is deeply sorry for his behaviour,” Mr Kelly said.
“There has been a sea change in him since this incident and he has sought help with his underlying problems and his drinking.
“He is on the right road now.”
Sheriff David Sutherland fined Deans, of Airyhall Place, Aberdeen, a total of £420.
