A man sunk his teeth into the nose of his girlfriend after the pair got into an argument at an Aberdeen hotel.
Jay McIntosh, 22, grabbed the woman and pushed her face into a duvet before pulling her up and biting her on the nose.
When police arrived at the scene after being alerted by concerned hotel guests they found the woman with blood gushing from her nose.
McIntosh was jailed last year after he was caught stamping baby seagulls to death on the streets of Buckie.
He also provoked an armed stand-off involving nearly 30 police officers after informing paramedics he had a knife.
Accused restricted woman’s breathing
Fiscal depute David Rogers told the court that on the afternoon of July 31 2021 the couple had checked into the Hotel Ibis on Shiprow, where they drank some alcohol and did other substances.
He stated that the couple mainly stayed in their room or played pool at the downstairs hotel bar.
However, an argument broke out between the pair at around 5am the following day which saw the woman attempting to leave and being pulled and cajoled back to the room by McIntosh.
“The accused then grabbed hold of the complainer’s face with both hands from behind and pushed her into a duvet face down, restricting her breathing,” Mr Rogers said.
“She felt very very faint and started to shout for help.
“The woman then managed to pull away from the duvet and turned her face towards the accused who bit her on the nose, causing her nose to bleed from both the inside and out.”
The disturbance was overheard by other guests, who contacted the police.
When police arrived, they found the woman in a highly distressed state and holding a towel against her nose, which was bleeding heavily.
She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where the bite mark was closed with glue.
Mr Rogers told the court she has been left with a permanent scar as a result of the assault.
McIntosh pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman, restricting her breathing and causing her permanent disfigurement by biting her nose.
Defence solicitor Steven Carty told the court that his client had become jealous over “ongoing” messages that the woman was receiving from another man.
“There had been communication between them for three weeks, which had developed into an argument,” he said.
“He does not seek to offer that as anything other than an excuse and he wants to apologise for acting in the way he has.”
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin jailed McIntosh, of West Street, Buckie, for 15 months and ordered him to stay away from the woman for three years.
