A woman has been fined and given three penalty points after she almost drove into two Aberdeen city wardens.
Kim Fraser narrowly missed a group of males crossing South Esplanade East and then caused two wardens to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.
It happened around 3pm on May 14 2021, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.
Fraser appeared in the dock and pled guilty to a charge of careless driving.
But the 37-year-old’s defence solicitor insisted there is a “shared responsibility” for pedestrians and drivers to take care.
‘Travelling at speed’
Fiscal depute Victoria Kerr said the two wardens, with no traffic coming in either direction, began to cross the road at the same time as a group of three males slightly further along the road.
“The accused’s car was travelling east at speed and came within two feet of the males, causing them to shout and gesture as it was driven past,” Ms Kerr explained.
“The wardens looked and saw the car continue in their direction without reducing speed.”
Witnesses said the wardens were forced to “jump out of the way to avoid a collision”.
The near miss was later reported to the police.
‘Under the speed limit’
Fraser, of Gardner Drive, Aberdeen, pled guilty to a charge of careless driving.
Defence agent Caitlin Pirie said her client, who appeared with no previous convictions, had been driving from her work to visit her mother.
Referring to the first incident with the group of males, she said: “Her position is they had set out in front of her and she had to take evasive action to avoid hitting those males.
“The speed was excessive given the pedestrians making efforts to cross the road, but it was under the speed limit.”
‘Her speed should have been lowered’
Ms Pirie said it was “incumbent” on both drivers and pedestrians to take care and that it was a “shared responsibility”.
She added: “Her speed should have been lowered to take into account the pedestrians making efforts to cross the road”.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin fined Fraser £470 and handed her three penalty points.
