A 17-year-old girl attacked and injured a woman who refused to buy alcohol for her in Aberdeen.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons because of her age, was part of a larger group “causing trouble and drinking” at Aberdeen’s Union Square bus station.
And when the woman refused to purchase drinks for her, the teenager, a childcare student, became violent.
The terrifying assault left the woman requiring stitches at hospital to close a gash to her nose.
Fiscal depute Georgia Laird told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident began around 8.20pm on January 31 while the woman was waiting to catch a bus home.
‘She knew she was underage’
Ms Laird said: “She observed a group of youths causing trouble and drinking.
“One of the females in the group asked the witness for a cigarette, which she handed over.
“The accused then asked the witness to buy her alcohol.
“The witness noticed the accused was already drunk and drinking vodka.
“She declined to buy her alcohol as she knew she was underage.”
The teenager then immediately started to act “aggressively” and threatened to “hit” the woman, who said she would respond in kind.
A short time later, while on a bus, the 17-year-old was heard calling the woman a “junkie” and asking her to get off the bus, which she did.
The teenager then grabbed the woman’s jacket and pulled it over her head before punching her to the head repeatedly.
She then pulled the woman to the ground, causing her to drop her phone and bank card.
‘She does appear to express remorse’
Staff from Union Square then intervened and assisted the woman in calling the police and an ambulance.
The accused and her group quickly left, and the injured woman was taken to hospital where she required stitches to close a laceration to her nose.
The 17-year-old, of Aberdeen, pled guilty to a charge of assault to injury.
Defence agent Sian Grant referred to a social work report describing her client’s family life and said she had “gone through a lot”.
She said: “Unfortunately, my client had been out with some friends and they had been consuming alcohol.
“She does appear to express remorse.”
Sheriff Kirsty Hood KC ordered the girl to pay a fine of £260.
