A man who died following a disturbance in Aberdeen has been named as a 39-year-old from the Woodend area of the city.
Henry Stephen died after being taken to hospital on Saturday night following reports of a fight in Rosehill Crescent.
Two people – Mark Riddle, 36, and Leah Knight, 28 – today appeared in court in connection with Mr Stephen’s death.
Both are accused of assault to the danger of life and made no plea during the private hearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
They were remanded in custody. They will reappear in court within the next eight days.
Neighbours report fighting
Emergency services were called to the street in Hilton at about 10.45pm after neighbours raised the alarm about an ongoing fight.
One neighbour told The Press and Journal today: “My husband was one of the ones who called the police.
“He heard noise and commotion coming from a house on the street. He was understandably frightened and called the police.”
Investigations are continuing at Rosehill Crescent today, centring around two properties, two doors apart.
One of the houses had a smashed window and a forensics tent has been put up in front of it. Forensic teams could be seen going in and out.
A cordon remains in place, blocking off Rosehill Crescent between Hayfield Place and Hilton Drive. Police are on guard outside the properties and an incident van is on the street.
Police revealed on Sunday that they have referred themselves to watchdog Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc).
A police spokesman said: “Around 10.45pm on Saturday, May 28, police received a report of concern for a 39-year-old man within a property on Rosehill Crescent in Aberdeen.
“The man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.
“A 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with an assault and inquiries are ongoing.”
