A man has been placed on the sex offenders register after video calling a stranger and sending her a raunchy video and picture.
John Souter appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing after previously admitting the sexual offence.
The 40-year-old pled guilty to intentionally causing a woman to look at a sexual image by video calling her, sending her a sexually explicit video and texting her a sexually explicit image.
The offence was committed on October 9 2021 at an address unknown to prosecutors in Aberdeen.
Defence agent Gregor Kelly admitted his client has a “terrible record”.
‘Reprehensible violation of her privacy’
However, he said Souter had demonstrated good victim awareness and had engaged positively with programmatic work since being released from an unrelated prison sentence.
He said drink and drugs had previously been a problem for Souter, but he had taken steps to address that and was now in a stable relationship.
Mr Kelly added: “Hopefully, with his new partner and new found sobriety, this will be the end of his offending.”
Sheriff Margaret Hodge told Souter: “The victim was a stranger who was only targeted, it seems, because she was a female on your contact list.
“In my view, it was a reprehensible violation of her privacy.
“In spite of my concerns, I’m prepared to follow the recommendation in the social work report.”
She ordered Souter, of Cairncry Road, Aberdeen, to complete the Moving Forward, Making Changes programme for three years and placed him on the sex offenders register for the same period.
