A man is facing an attempted murder charge after a disturbance in Inverurie allegedly involving a knife and a samurai sword.
Police were called to the incident on Kellands Road in Inverurie on Friday night and arrested one man while another was taken to hospital.
Kellands Road was taped off between the junctions at Westfield Road and George Square, with police and ambulance crews on the scene.
And now, James Riddell has appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in connection with the incident.
The 48-year-old, of Inverurie, made no plea in response to charges of assault to severe injury and attempted murder and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
It is understood the attempted murder allegation involves the use of a knife as well as a samurai sword.
Riddell was released on bail and a date for his next appearance over the matter has yet to be fixed.
‘Inquiries are ongoing’
A 44-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident on Friday around 10.40pm.
Following the incident, a police spokeswoman said: “We were called to a report of a disturbance on Kellands Road, Inverurie, around 10.40pm on Friday June 2.
“A 44-year-old man attended Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
“A 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday, June 5.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
