A man who was a member of a cross-border “county lines” drugs gang has been ordered to hand over more than £3,000 to prosecutors under proceeds of crime legislation.
Zamar Green, 21, was part of an organised crime group which supplied cocaine and heroin from a base in London to users in Aberdeen.
He was given a two-year sentence at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to drug dealing.
Narcotics brought to Aberdeen
Between February and July of that year, detectives gathered evidence of how narcotics were being brought into Aberdeen from London.
The discovery concerned addresses predominantly throughout the city centre and the Rosemount area.
Donovan Smith, 27, was arrested and charged at an address in Hornchurch, London, at the end of the operation on July 7 2020.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police detained Smith and discovered approximately £55,000 in cash and proceeds of crime in excess of £100,000.
Smith’s associates, who included Green and 25-year-old Gavion Smith were also detained.
Police found Green at an address in Charlotte Street, Aberdeen, and dealer quantities of heroin, crack cocaine and a four-figure sum of cash were all seized.
Green appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and was prohibited from returning to Scotland.
Gavion Smith was given a three-year jail sentence and was also banned from returning to Scotland.
Donovan Smith was given a seven-year sentence after pleading guilty to drug dealing offences at the High Court in Edinburgh in April 2023.
A further two people – one woman, aged 22, and a 30-year-old man – were arrested and charged with Class A drug supply offences.
The woman was given a community payback order and the man was jailed for 290 days.
Proceeds of crime
On Monday, prosecutors and defence lawyers agreed that Green had made £6,755.00 from his life of crime. They also agreed that he only had £3,315.00 available at this point in time.
Lord Weir ordered that Smith hand the sum over to the Crown within six months.
