An Aberdeen woman who sent threatening voice notes and messages to her ex had “got mad” over insensitive comments about her late brother, a court has heard.
Taylar Wetherly threatened to have her former partner “tortured”, said she’d “skin his face”, kick him in his colostomy bag and “stick a baseball bat up his a***” in a series of vile messages.
The 25-year-old first sent her ex-partner a message request on Facebook messenger and once that was accepted sent a barrage of threats over June 7 and 8 last year.
Fiscal depute Kate Scarborough said there had been “ongoing tensions” between Wetherly and her ex.
Taylar Wetherly: ‘I will rape you’
Wetherly sent three voice messages – listened to by both her ex and his new partner – the final one saying “I’m away to get you tortured”.
“The messages also stated she was going to kick the complainer in his stomach, which is where he has a colostomy bag,” the fiscal said. “There was a further threat that read ‘I’m skinning your face’.
“The witnesses felt threatened by these messages and contacted police.
“Messages were checked and there were further ones with the accused saying ‘I’m going to bend you over and stick a baseball bat up your a*** covered in barbed wire. Swear to God, I will rape you’.”
Police traced Wetherly and her partner – her co-accused who was jailed for his part in the incident – and were told: “They contacted us first”.
Wetherly explained: “They asked how my brother was doing… he’s dead. That’s not nice. I got mad.”
She denied making threats to her ex and only to his girlfriend.
She’s a ‘vulnerable lady’
But in court, Wetherly admitted a charge of sending indecent and menacing messages containing threats of violent and sexual acts.
Her defence agent Alex Burn said his client was a “particularly vulnerable lady” which he said was evidenced by the fact she had a black eye and cut lip in the dock.
“Her position is there was a two-way conversation going on but they told the police,” he said.
“They were making reference to her recently-deceased sibling, who was transitioning from female to male. They made remarks about his death and she reacts.
“She accepts what she put was completely irresponsible. She was involved with her co-accused who has a substantial record and was given a custodial sentence for his part.”
Mr Burn said her former co-accused, Albert Massie, of Union Grove, Aberdeen, was recently jailed.
Mr Burn added that Wetherly, a former heroin addict, “always ends up in a relationship with the wrong type” as she is “always craving affection and care”.
Sheriff Margaret Hodge ordered Wetherly, of Princes Street, Aberdeen, to be under the supervision of social workers for one year.
She told her: “I am very concerned about what is being said about your background. I am sure you regret the offence. I think you could do with perhaps more intense social work support.”
