A man has been jailed for throwing a child’s booster seat out of a car window at police during a high-speed chase through Aberdeen.

Tony Winchester was the passenger in a car that led officers on a dangerous 90mph pursuit across the city, on November 9 2021.

The driver – Kieran Ord – previously admitted a string of charges and was jailed for 18 months.

During the terrifying 25-mile-long drama, the pair raced through Mastrick, Cults, Garthdee, the city centre, Danestone, Bridge of Don and the harbour.

Now, 33-year-old Winchester has been locked up after he pled guilty to a charge of culpable and reckless conduct – for throwing the kid’s car seat from the moving vehicle while police followed behind.

They were so desperate to avoid capture that the driver, Ord, actually rammed a police vehicle, at one point, to get away.

Defence agent Gregor Kelly, who represented Winchester, said his client was the passenger and that they had been going to pick up drugs.

The route of the high-speed chase

The lawyer described the seat as a “polystyrene wedge” but accepted it was a “reckless act”.

He told the court the seat “bounced harmlessly to the side of the road”.

And Mr Kelly added: “He doesn’t see the blue lights at that time. He was told by the driver they’d lost them”.

‘An extremely reckless thing to do’

Sheriff Philip Mann told Winchester, of Charlotte Street in Aberdeen: “This was an extremely reckless thing to do.

“It could have caused an accident, which, in turn, could have had catastrophic consequences.

“In my view, there really is no alternative to a custodial disposal.”

The sheriff jailed Winchester for six months.
