A plumber who drove at nearly twice the speed limit was banned from driving for a year and fined £300 at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
Ciaran Kelly admitted driving dangerously at 114mph on the A9 at Coulnagour by Culbokie on the approach to the Cromarty Bridge on April 27 this year.
And the court heard the 24-year-old, of 23 Croyard Park, Beauly, was likely to lose his job as a result of the disqualification.
Sheriff Eric Brown was told that police were monitoring traffic on the Black Isle road when they saw Kelly’s vehicle coming towards them well in excess of the speed limit.
Solicitor Willie Young said the father-of-one worked on building sites at Dornoch and Alness and “was clearly a trusted and valued employee. But almost certainly he is going to lose his employment.
“He was going to pick up his girlfriend at the time and had commenced a manoeuvre to overtake two vehicles but the car in front overtook ahead of him. He then accelerated to pass both vehicles and accepts his speed was completely unacceptable.”
