An Inverness man has been ordered to complete a domestic violence course after admitting a series of offences within his own home.
Edward McCartney, 55, of 7 Oldtown Road, was told that his community payback order was a “direct alternative to custody” when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
McCartney previously admitted various offences committed between November 1, 2011 and January 19 this year at his home address.
He admitted verbally abusing his wife Georgina McCartney by shouting and swearing, throwing things around and harming himself in front of her.
McCartney also admitted making threats of violence towards two separate girls in the home, as well as throwing things around, self-harming in their presence, shouting and swearing.
Defence agent Mike Chapman told the court that the marriage had since broken up, adding that he felt there was “very little chance of Mr McCartney reoffending”.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson sentenced McCartney to completing a domestic violence course and doing 100 hours of unpaid work within six months.
He will also be under supervision for the next 12 months.
