A 19-year-old man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder.
A monthly market in Fraserburgh was shut down early on Saturday after a man was allegedly stabbed in a lane off the port’s Broad Street.
Yesterday, a 19-year-old appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder.
Arturs Belijs, who stood in the dock in private and on petition, made no plea or declaration during his brief hearing before Sheriff Andrew Miller.
He will make a second appearance in court within seven days and was remanded in custody.
Every month, Fraserburgh’s town centre is transformed into a maze of market stalls and attractions as part of a themed programme of events dubbed Super Saturdays.
Last weekend, the theme was ‘enterprise’.
But at around 2.30pm, an ambulance and police scrambled were dispatched to the town after a man was reportedly stabbed near a bookmakers.
Mike Chandler, chairman of Fraserburgh Tourisn Group, whose organisation had a stall at Saturday’s event, said it was not clear what had happened in the immediate aftermath of the attack.
“There was no panic, but there was an interest because an ambulance and a police car came all sirens blaring and lights flashing.
“Then the word drifted out,” he said.
Following the attack, the market event ended early.
