A woman who hindered a police search for a missing 15-year-old girl was given extra time to complete her community service yesterday.
Emma Gillan, 24, of 10c Miller Road, Oban, previously appeared at the town’s sheriff court alongside her brother Kevin Gillan, 27.
The pair pleaded guilty to resisting, obstructing or hindering two police officers in the execution of their duty on June 18 last year at Dunollie Cottage, Soroba House Mews.
Kevin Gillan admitted repeatedly informing officers that the girl was not in Dunollie Cottage when he knew she was there.
Emma Gillan pleaded guilty to the same charge, but only on one occasion.
Kevin Gillan was ordered to do 200 hours community service, while his sister was given 100 hours. But she was back in the dock after failing to complete them within the required time.
Solicitor Gordon Seaton said: “A total of 24 hours have been completed, leaving 76 hours. She suffers from anxiety and is on anti-depressants. She has a three-year-old son and there have been child care difficulties.
“She is asking for more time to complete the work.”
He said the community service was gardening work.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson QC said: “It is not the most taxing of work I wouldn’t have thought. It may be just the thing for her depression.”
Giving her until December 15 to complete the hours, Sheriff Anderson told Gillan: “This is a second chance for you. A lot of people with children work full time.”
