A car delivery driver has been fined after a whisky-fuelled rammy with police and door staff at Krakatoa in Aberdeen.
Andrew Waddell had been in the Granite City for work and decided to spend the night and head out for a few drinks.
But the night took a turn for the worse when the 57-year-old started drinking whisky – the last thing he remembers from the evening.
Waddell ended up throwing a punch at a bouncer, who’d asked him to leave, and landed one on a police officer who was called to assist.
Andrew Waddell swung a punch as cuffs were being applied
Fiscal depute Claire Stewart told Aberdeen Sheriff Court that Waddell was asked to leave Krakatoa by a bouncer in the early hours of March 30 “due to his behaviour”.
She said: “The accused refused to leave and threw a punch towards the man’s head, which missed.”
Waddell then tried to grab the bouncer by the collar and police had to be called.
Officers attended and helped to restrain Waddell but, while cuffs were being applied, he managed to swing a fist and punch one of the officers in the head.
Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injury and Waddell was placed in the police van.
‘He remembers nothing of this shameful incident’
Waddell, whose address was given as a cottage on the road from Hay Cross to The Square, Shebbear, Devon, pled guilty to assaulting the bouncer and the police officer.
Defence agent Ian Woodward-Nutt said his client had been in Aberdeen through his employment.
He said: “After a long day of driving he sensibly elected to stay the night and that evening he went out and consumed alcohol.
“Unfortunately, he consumed an excessive quantity of alcohol.
“He recalls meeting with a male who suggested they start drinking whisky and that is where his recollection of events ends.
“He remembers nothing of this shameful incident. He is deeply ashamed of his behaviour.”
Mr Woodward-Nutt said Waddell had turned to alcohol while struggling with mental health issues and depression but had been abstinent since this incident.
Sheriff Shirley McKenna fined Waddell £640.
