A drink-driver pulled over by police in the early hours of the morning held his hands in the air and said: “You caught me”.
Neil McCulloch was almost four times the alcohol limit when he struggled to get a taxi home after a night out and opted to drive instead.
But he quickly drew the attention of police officers who stopped him on North Esplanade West in the city centre of Aberdeen.
The 49-year-old then got out of the car, put his hands in the air and said: “You caught me, I did it.”
Fiscal depute Claire Stewart told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened at 2.52am on September 6 when police were alerted to a possible drink-driver.
‘It was basically a fair cop’
She said: “Police attended and stopped the vehicle.
“The accused exited the vehicle and held his hands up, stating: ‘You caught me, I did it’.”
After failing a breath test, McCulloch added: “I’m a d**k. I’m sorry.”
McCulloch, of Lochside Crescent, Banchory, pled guilty to driving with 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.
Defence agent Jenny Logan said: “He’d gone out for a couple of drinks with friends.
“He’d waited for a taxi but was unable to get one and made the stupid mistake to then drive.
“He put his hands up at the first opportunity.
“He’s a 49-year-old man and has been driving for 32 years and has no previous convictions.”
Sheriff Shirley McKenna said: “I think you understand and have admitted yourself it was basically a fair cop.”
She banned him from driving for a year and fined him £640.
