Moray man left “shaking” after aggresive tirade from wife

A Moray woman left her husband “shaking like a leaf” after an aggressive drunken tirade.

Jane Guthrie admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards her husband George when she appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.

The incident happened on July 28, after a night of drinking.

Guthrie, of 18 Yuill Avenue, Buckie, woke her husband up to tell him she “was leaving him” then repeatedly banged on work tops, contacted the police, and shouted and swore.

Fiscal depute Kevin Corrins told the court: “Mr Guthrie left his wife drinking in the kitchen that night, and she became drunk.

“At about midnight she entered their bedroom and shouted ‘you know I’m leaving you’, but he ignored this and hoped the situation would calm down.”

The fiscal said 48-year-old Guthrie later called the police several times, demanding to be taken to hospital or a friend’s home.

During one call her husband intervened “to prevent her from wasting police time”.

Mr Corrins added: “At this point the accused could be heard shouting and swearing at him.

“When police arrived they found Mr Guthrie to be shaking like a leaf, and heard the accused still shouting in the kitchen.”

Guthrie’s solicitor, Stephen Carty, said: “Tensions around the household were fairly strained at that time.”

Sheriff John Halley said Guthrie seemed unable to fully recall the “alarm” that she had caused as she had been “under the

influence”.

He deferred sentenced on the first offender for six months, and ordered her to be of good behaviour.
