A police woman was forced to jump out of the way when a drink-driver made off during questioning.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that another officer was still holding on to the door of Pawel Komorowski’s van when he drove off.
Yesterday Komorowski, 33, admitted dangerous driving in connection with the incident at Burnett Road in Inverness on August 30 this year.
He also pleaded guilty to failing to stop on Shore Street on the same day, and to a charge of drink-driving.
Komorowski, of 12 Brown Street, was nearly four times the legal limit.
Depute fiscal Stewart Maciver told the court two police officers leaving Burnett Road Police Station saw Komorowski’s van on the street with the engine running at around 12.30am.
One of the officers recognised him and began to ask for his details, believing there to be an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Mr Maciver said Komorowski had appeared “agitated and defensive” to the police officers.
One of the police officers opened the driver door and asked Komorowski to switch the engine off.
Instead he drove off, while the male officer was still holding on to the door.
The second officer was forced to take evasive action, otherwise the “vehicle would have struck her”, said Mr Maciver.
Other officers were asked to look out for the van which was spotted on Shore Street.
The officers put on blue lights and a siren but Komorowski did not stop.
Mr Maciver said police had followed the van along Telford Street and into a nearby industrial estate.
The depute fiscal said: “He initially slowed down as if to stop but then he kept moving.
“The van was later found abandoned and the area was patrolled. The accused was later seen in another car park.”
He gave an initial breath test at the scene and having failed he was arrested and taken to Burnett Road.
Sentence was deferred on Komorowski for background reports to be carried out.
He will return to court on October 22 and has been disqualified in the interim.
