A man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving after a crash in the north-east.
The crash, involving a motorbike and car, happened on the A952 Mintlaw to Fraserburgh road, near New Leeds in the early hours of Tuesday.
The biker – believed to be a policeman based in Fraserburgh – was taken to hospital with “life-changing” injuries.
Yesterday, 35-year-old Alan Tait appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court in connection with the incident.
Tait faced a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and not providing police officers with his name or address to identify who was driving the car – a silver convertible – at the time of the incident.
He is also accused of driving without insurance and two counts of having a controlled substance in his possession.
Tait, of Fraserburgh, made no plea or declaration during the brief private court hearing yesterday.
He was later released on bail.
Last night a police spokeswoman confirmed the biker was still in hospital with “serious injuries”.
After the crash, which happened at about 3.30am, the A952 was closed for nearly 10 hours while collision investigators examined the scene.
