A teenager who went to the aid of a friend involved in a fight has ended up in court on an assault charge herself.
Cheyanne Wilson, 18, of Northern Lights, Neath Birches, Scaniport appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted assaulting a 17-year-old by holding her in a head lock and restricting her breathing.
The incident happened in Telford Street on June 5, 2015 at about 11.30pm as the victim was waiting for a bus.
Fiscal depute Ross Carvel said: “A group of people who seemed to be heavily intoxicated appeared at the bus stop as the victim and her pal were waiting for a bus.
“There was an altercation and Wilson came behind the complainer, held her in a head lock and restricted her breathing.
“During the course of this, somebody tried to separate them and they both ended up on the ground. The victim banged her head on the shelter and was knocked unconscious.”
Defence lawyer Duncan Henderson said: “She got involved because her friend was in a fight.”
Sentence was deferred until October 27 next year for Wilson’s good behaviour.
