A prison officer has been banned from the roads after attempting to move his car off double yellow lines while three times the drink-drive limit.
Jamie McNally previously admitted driving his red Seat Ibiza after drinking, and appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing.
The 25-year-old was stopped by police in the early hours of October 10 this year outside his home at 59 St Peter Street, Peterhead.
The Scottish Prison Service employee – who the court heard had been trying to drive his car only several yards to move off double yellow lines – was found to have a blood alcohol level of 98microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22microgrammes.
McNally has written to the court to the apologise, and yesterday defence agent Stuart Flowerdew described his actions as “foolish”.
Sheriff Andrew Miller disqualified McNally from the road for 16 months and fined him £400. McNally can reduce his disqualification period by three months if he successfully completes a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
