A biker who had accumulated three speeding convictions in three years ended up losing her licence after driving carelessly in front of police officers during a trip to Argyll.
Faye Battersby, 42, from Nottinghamshire, was travelling with a group of bikers on the A85 Oban to Perth road when they caught the attention of police.
The IT manager pleaded guilty to driving carelessly near Kilmaronaig Croft, Connel, on April 25 by carrying out an overtaking manoeuvre on the approach to a blind bend, causing an oncoming vehicle to break to avoid a crash.
Fiscal Eoin McGinty said: “Officers were on uniform patrol travelling along the A85 near Taynuilt when they were passed by a number of motorcyclists going in the opposite direction towards Oban.
“The manner of the driving made police turn round and follow them. The other motorcyclists had overtaken a car leaving the accused and the police.
“Police activated their blue lights and sirens. The accused failed to notice and there came a point when she began to overtake the vehicle that was in front of her on a blind right hand bend.
“As she was overtaking a car came round the corner and had to brake heavily to allow the accused to safely overtake.”
Solicitor Richard Freeman said: “They travelled up the night before from Nottingham, stayed over night in Leith and decided to go to Oban.
“She has been riding for 16 years. She was amongst this group and was aware they wanted to travel at a faster pace than she wanted to.
“She had nine penalty points and because of that didn’t want to keep up with the group.
“She was left behind and became a bit nervous because a rendevous point hadn’t been agreed when they set off. She decided to try to catch up.”
He said she was not aware of police behind her and then she made a misjudgement in the overtaking manoeuvre.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson told Battersby, of 15 Brackendale Drive, Walesby, that she would restrict the fine to £250.
She said: “I am going to impose six penalty points. I appreciate that will impact on your holding the licence, but that is against a background of a recent rather poor driving record.”
Battersby was disqualified for six months under the totting up procedure.
