A man who crashed his car while on a fishing trip to Loch Awe landed in Oban Sheriff Court yesterday.
Stephen Todd, 26, pleaded guilty to failing to provide two specimens of breath at Oban Police Office on August 29.
Todd, of 9 Charles Quadrant, Holytown, Motherwell, was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £300.
Fiscal Eoin McGinty said: “Police officers were asked to attend a crash at Dalmally after 2am that had been reported by a passing motorist. The motorist had seen a Ford Focus partially off the road sticking out of a ditch.
“Police arrived and the accused was at the vehicle. He was asked who the driver was and he swore and said, ‘it was me,’.
“He then provided a specimen of breath which was positive. He remained particularly abusive towards police officers throughout their dealings with him. He was brought back to the police office and requested to provide to further specimens of breath, which he simply refused.”
Solicitor Paul Sutherland said: “He had been fishing earlier that day at Loch Awe and had consumed alcohol. This was early morning and he had been drinking the previous day. The car was in the ditch, he had returned to check it was still there when the police arrived.”
