A man has appeared in court accused of having an offensive weapon and carrying a knife in public following a six-hour siege at a north-east flat.
Paul Fox was detained by police after the stand-off at a property in Peterhead’s Meethill area.
The 43-yea-old appeared in private at the town’s sheriff court yesterday.
He also faced charges of acting in a threatening or abusive manner and vandalism.
He made no plea during yesterday’s hearing and was remanded in custody.
He is expected to appear in court again next week.
Police surrounded a ground floor flat in Peterhead’s Meethill Place at 6.30am on Sunday after receiving calls about a disturbance.
Armed officers and dog handlers were involved in the operation.
About 15 houses neighbouring the boarded-up property were sealed off and residents were told to remain indoors and close their curtains.
Bystanders who initially watched the drama from behind the police cordon were eventually moved further away to the adjacent Meethill Terrace and members of public were asked to avoid the area.
Police officers at the scene said the attention the incident was attracting was making finding a solution to the siege “difficult”.
The street reopened around 6pm on Sunday, although police remained stationed at the house.
Two specialist ambulance response teams had been called to assist officers, as well as fire crews.
One resident said of the siege: “We don’t know anything about it.
“He’s lived there for at least a couple of year and keeps himself to himself. I don’t know what the incident was about.
“If I’m out washing the car he’d say ‘hello’.”
Local councillor Anne Allan said: “This sort of thing is extremely unusual for Peterhead.
“This is not the sort of thing we like to see happening in the town, however, I am very glad that it’s all ended peacefully.”
